All About Hollands

So you’re looking to learn more about Hollands? Great!

I’ll kick things off by saying one of the many reasons these lops are my favourite is their charming personalities. Our family has owned several breeds of rabbit over the years, from Hollands to Lionheads, Netherland Dwarfs, French Lops and Flemish Giants. That said, the Holland Lop always won out as my personal favourite.

These rabbits won me over with their friendly character and quirky nature. Not to mention those adorable little lop ears paired with “blocky” heads.

Speaking of their quirky nature, my buck, Luke, is convinced he’s actually a dog. When I let him out for a romp, he follows me around everywhere like a little puppy! In the house, he jumps on everything from the couches to the beds. He’s an active boy, but has a cuddly side too.

When it comes to the breed itself, you may be surprised to know that Holland Lops are the smallest of the lop breeds, usually weighing between two to four pounds.

Typically, the lifespan of these rabbits is six to eight years, though our first Holland, Thumper, lived to be 12!

Holland Lops are very friendly and docile rabbits, making them one of the most popular breeds in North America.

Hollands also come in nearly as many colours as the rainbow. The most popular are black torts, but my personal favourites are sable points, creams and oranges.
